While in Ravengro the pcs receive the following letter:
Dear
Gregor Fog and company,
It is with a heavy heart that I must
inform you of the demise of the poor creature that called itself “Wretch”. It
seems that the unfortunate golem-thing met his fate in the flames despite your
inspired effort otherwise. I was not present at any of the following events so
please bear that in mind as I relate the relevant circumstances. The poor
ignorant creature Wretch was spotted digging a grave in a small graveyard well
west of Lepidistadt. When confronted by an angry mob of local farmers Wretch
fled leaving behind a metal bound coffin-like device with eye slits. It soon
became apparent there was a dead body inside. The villagers opened the device
and inside they found a filthy corpse with a hideous wound in one eye. What was
now becoming an angry mob located a magistrate to organize and sanction pursuit
of the “Beast”. A hunter among them
followed Wretch’s trail to Schloss Caromarc. When confronted about the murder
at the gate keep Wretch denied murdering his “father” but refused to give the
name of the true culprit. Wretch retreated to the next keep and when confronted
there retreated yet again. This time Wretch would retreat no further perhaps
because the bridge was out. The villagers attacked wretch but were unable to harm
him and so they set the 3rd keep on fire. The 3rd keep
collapsed sooner than expected from the fire taking Wretch and a few of the
villager still on the bridge with them. These are hard times where men do such
things without understanding.
Sincerely,
Judge Embreth Daramid
